Soho: London’s media hub

Soho, in the heart of London’s West End, has been famous as an upmarket entertainment district since the beginning of the 20th century. Soho’s reputation as a major entertainment district stems from the cluster of famous theatres that can be found in Soho, this includes – Palace Theatre, Prince Edward Theatre and Apollo Theatre. The independent British film industry, including the British headquarters of Twentieth Century Fox, are also located in the area. This has made Soho a sought-after location for commercial offices, especially media and film companies. Let’s look at what has made Soho a media hub and one of the most desirable districts in the capital.

Soho’s history

In the late 17th Century it became a parish, and housing developments started to address the increasing population in the capital. The area became known as the French quarter, as over 40% of the population living in Soho were French speaking. What we now know as the West End, was created in 1717 with the development of theatres and music venues and Soho became known as the entertainment district. Nowadays, Soho is considered the media hub of London and is home to many creative industries including media agencies, film, TV and radio studios.
